Dioscorea elephantipes (Testudinaria elephantipes), beter bekend als Hottentotsbrood of Olifantenpoot. Een mooie caudex-plant die na verloop van tijd een houten caudex vormt. Deze planten kunnen extreem oud worden en de houten caudex kan een diameter bereiken van bijna 1 meter.<\/p>\n

De plant groeit prima in normale succulenten grond. Plant de bol 0,5 – 1 cm diep in de grond. Geef wat schaduw (we kweken deze op de onderste planken in de kas). Dioscorea heeft aardig wat water nodig als de plant actief groeit en bladeren heeft. Dit is meestal in de lente en de herfst. Beperk de hoeveelheid water als de plant haar bladeren heeft laten vallen. Dioscorea elephantipes heeft de neiging om haar bladeren te verliezen in de droge hete zomermaanden en in de winter. Maak je geen zorgen als de bladsteel breekt. De plant kan een nieuwe vormen.<\/p>\n
