Bimskies, Bims or pumice is a unique natural product used in potting mixtures for cactus plants and succulents. Some plant growers successfully cultivate cacti on pure Bims. Bimskies is so popular because it is light in weight and it really opens up the structure of the soil so more air can reach the roots of the plants and water drains faster. The Bims particles are 2–5 mm. Pure Bims is very suitable also to germinate cactus and succulent seeds in. We had very good results with Stapelia, Hoodia and Caralluma species. Germination was swift and there were no problems with mold formation even without treating the seeds with a desinfectant.

    Since I’m new in succulents, I gave it a try for my lithops seeds. Luckily I got 3 lithops cuttings with the mix I ordered and one week in a mixture with mostly this bims, all three started rooting.

    Good, and comes in different sizes. I use it at the bottom of the pots with no draining holes, and also as decoration of the terrarium.
