Sedum morganianum Burrito, also called Burro’s Tail, is a beautiful cultivar. The leafs are shorter and more compact than the natural species Sedum morganianum. Sedum morganianum is native to Mexico and Honduras. This Sedum is very ornamental and suitable for hanging pots and containers.
Sedum morganianum Burrito Care
This is an easy Succulent. It needs as much light as possible to maintain the blue green color and the compact form. Water the plant when the soil is completely dry. You may use some fertilizer in spring and autumn. Best use a good Succulent soil with perfect drainage capabilities. You can grow Sedum morganianum Burrito outside from half May to September. Slowly adjust to increased light or give some shade from intense sun if possible. We keep all our Sedum plants completely dry in winter in the greenhouse at a minimum temperature of 5-10C.
Sedum morganianum Burrito Propagation
Most Sedums, especially cultivars, are grown from cuttings. Sedum morganianum Burrito can be propagated from leaf cuttings or stem cuttings.
Sedum morganianum from Leaf Cuttings
With leaf cutting propagation it takes around 3-4 years to get a 5 cm plant. You can get many plants this way. Just take of the littele leafs carefully and intact and spread them out over Succulent soil. Best use a shallow tray to make sure the soil does not stay wet too long. Cover the leaf cuttings lightly with lava gravel or fine pumice.
Sedum morganianum Burrito from Stem Cuttings
Growing Sedum Burrito from stem cuttings goes much fast but you get a limited supply of new plants. Cut of a piece of 5-10 cm from the Sedum stem. Both top section and mid section cuttings work great. Remove the lower leafs and let the cutting wound dry for 3-4 days before planting in soil. Sedum morganianum Burrito stem cuttings usually form roots in 3-4 weeks, depending on temperature. Do not water before roots have formed.

In a greenhouse or on a windowsill facing south this usually isnt an issue. If you can not offer bright light for your Burro’s Tail plants collection, we highly recommend using Succulent grow lights. Two stem cuttings of burrows tail, one I planted in succulent planting mix which already has a pink bud at the tip, not sure if it’s really a bud. Another one I placed in water, which rooted very quickly..

Got two nice cuttings, one of them looked a bit dehydrated, but I hope it will survive. None of them had roots, I hope I’ll be able to make them create some roots.

Two little “tails” of about 10 cm or so each. They look a little thirsty but otherwise healthy and beautiful. One had a small root already. Have stuck them both in soil and expect them to do just fine.
